1. About the Journal
Mission Statement
The Journal of Carbon Catalysis (JCC) is a premier, peer-reviewed, open-access publication dedicated to advancing scientific discovery and technical innovation at the intersection of carbon materials science and catalytic chemistry. The journal's mission is to provide an international, interdisciplinary platform for researchers, engineers, and academicians to disseminate cutting-edge findings that address global energy, environmental, and sustainable manufacturing challenges through state-of-the-art carbon catalysis research.
Scope of the Journal
JCC welcomes original research articles, high-impact reviews, mini-reviews, and short communications
spanning fundamental theory, computational modeling, synthesis, characterization, and industrial
application of carbon-based catalysts. The core areas of interest include, but are not limited to:
1. Heterogeneous Carbon Catalysis: Synthesis, modification, and functionalization of carbon catalysts
(e.g., graphene, carbon nanotubes, biochar, activated carbons, and carbon dots).
2. Electrocatalysis & Energy Conversion: Fundamental electrocatalytic mechanisms for fuel cells,
water splitting, CO2 reduction, and nitrogen fixation using metal-free or carbon-supported catalysts.
3. Photocatalysis & Environmental Remediation: Application of carbon nanomaterials in solar energy
conversion, organic pollutant degradation, and advanced oxidation processes.
4. Computational Carbon Catalysis: Density Functional Theory (DFT), molecular dynamics, and
machine learning models predicting active sites, reaction pathways, and kinetics on carbon surfaces.
5. Industrial & Green Chemistry Applications: Sustainable chemical synthesis, biomass valorization,
and scale-up engineering of carbon-catalysed chemical processes.

2. Editorial Board

The JCC Editorial Board is comprised of internationally recognized leaders within the chemical, material sciences, and environmental engineering sectors:

Editorial Responsibilities
Members of the Editorial Board adhere to strict governance standards to maintain the integrity of the
journal:
Editor-in-Chief: Oversees the scientific direction of the journal, makes final decisions on manuscript
acceptances or rejections, and handles appeals.
Associate Editors: Manage the peer-review pipeline for manuscripts matching their specialization,
select expert reviewers, synthesize reviewer feedback, and issue recommendations.
Editorial Board Members: Act as technical ambassadors, advise on thematic special issues, review
manuscripts when requested, and assist in maintaining high peer-review benchmarks.
3. Author Guidelines
Submission Format and Structure
All manuscripts must be submitted via the online Editorial Submission System. Manuscripts should be structured logically in English according to standard technical frameworks:
Title Page (Title, Author Names, Institutional Affiliations, Corresponding Author Email, Abstract
[max 250 words], 4–6 Keywords).
Main Text (Introduction, Experimental Section/Methods, Results and Discussion, Conclusions).
Declarations (Acknowledgments, Funding Sources, Conflict of Interest Statements, and Data Availability Statements).
Typography: Standard font (e.g., Calibri or Times New Roman, 12 pt), double-spaced with 1-inch margins. Continuous line numbering must be enabled throughout the manuscript to facilitate peer review.
Referencing Style
JCC enforces the American Chemical Society (ACS) numeric citation style. In-text citations should appear as superscript numbers after punctuation (e.g., ...as demonstrated in previous literature.¹). The
bibliography must be ordered sequentially by appearance:

Publication Ethics Policy
The Journal of Carbon Catalysis strictly adheres to guidelines established by the Committee on
Publication Ethics (COPE).
Plagiarism and Fabrication: Manuscripts are scanned via professional text-matching software (e.g., iThenticate). Text recycling, verbatim copying without attribution, and data falsification represent grounds for immediate rejection or retraction.
Duplicate Submission: Simultaneous submission of the same manuscript to multiple venues is strictly prohibited.
Conflicts of Interest: Authors must explicitly state all financial and personal relationships that could
inappropriately bias their scientific findings.
4. Peer Review Policy
Double-Blind Review Framework
To preserve complete objectivity and eliminate potential institutional, gender, or geographical bias, JCC operates a rigorous Double-Blind Peer Review Process. Under this framework:
The identities of the authors are hidden from the reviewers throughout the review lifecycle.
The identities of the reviewers are concurrently masked from the authors.
Review Process Steps
1. Editorial Screening: Upon submission, the manuscript undergoes an initial technical screen
(scope fit, formatting, plagiarism check). Papers passing the initial check are assigned to an Associate
Editor.
2. Peer Evaluation: The handling Editor invites a minimum of two independent, external domain
specialists to evaluate the scientific validity, methodology, and novelty of the work.
3. Recommendations: Reviewers render one of four recommendations: Accept without Changes,
Minor Revision, Major Revision, or Reject.
4. Final Adjudication: The handling Editor reviews the feedback and synthesizes a final decision. If
reviewer critiques diverge significantly, a third adjudicating reviewer may be appointed.
5. Open Access Statement
Licensing & Accessibility Framework: The Journal of Carbon Catalysis is fully committed to the global Open Access movement. All scientific articles published within JCC are made permanently free and universally accessible online immediately upon official publication, without any subscription paywalls, barriers, or registration embargoes.

All research content is published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) License. Under this framework:
Unrestricted Share & Adapt: Anyone is permitted to copy, distribute, transmit, adapt, and build upon the published work, even for commercial motives.
Mandatory Attribution: Users must provide appropriate scientific credit, include a link to the CC license, and explicitly state if modifications were performed. This credit must not suggest endorsement by the authors or the journal.
Copyright Retention: Authors retain absolute, unrestricted copyright and publishing rights over their articles, granting the journal an exclusive license to publish the work as its primary venue.
